Anti-Alcohol Resolution (short story)

There lived a Gopi Patel in a village. He was about 45-50 years old. His complexion was firm and strong in stature. Patel family had good status in the village. But Gopi Patel had a bad habit, he used to drink alcohol frequently in the evening. Due to this, the respect of Patel family was being destroyed in the soil. Due to the same alcohol addiction, his wife had left him and sat in another place. He also had a boy, who was now grown, he started working as a driver in a truck. Due to his father's addiction to alcohol, he could not even get married. That's why he too rarely came to the house.

When Gopi Patel was simple, he would talk with respect to everyone with folded hands, but when he was intoxicated, he used to talk directly with abusive words. For this reason the villagers had cut off from him. Even his two brothers did not talk to him. Now he was alone, he would make his own bread. At the third o'clock he would often go to the village located on the highway, three km away from his village. There too he had caught his eye with some unmarried woman. In the evening, he used to drink tea in the dhabas there.

One day he came on the highway only at 10-11 in the morning. He was intoxicated. Found an acquaintance of the village, Chhotu Khan. Chhotu Khan was shorty in name only, but he was full-bodied of six feet, only two-four years younger than him. Although they were nine brothers, he had his only home in that village. He used to do the work of cotton yarn in that village. He was passionate about his work. He also had good rapport with the villagers. Today he too was waiting for the bus to go to his town that early in the morning he met this drunkard. Although he was trying to avoid it, but he was compelled to stand there in the way of the bus.

What did Gopi feel to Patel that he came to him and said, Oh you fight with me What was the point of fighting poor Chotu? He said with folded hands, brother, you won, I lost, I accepted my defeat. But Gopi had the urge to fight. He then instigated Chotu, are you fighting with me or not? Poor Chhotu would join hands again and again, while Gopi's tune kept increasing. After all, Chhotu's blood also started bleeding, but there was terror of Patels in the village, so he was acting wisely. Now the gopi wanted to lift him by holding on to Chotu's waist, then Chotu picked him up and threw him on the ground. The hands and feet were already wobbly, now Patel was not being lifted. Poor little Chhotu was terrified. The dhabas explained to him that there is nothing to be afraid of, we were watching ourselves, it is not your fault, we will all explain to his family members. In this, Chhotu's bus arrived, he left in the bus.

The news of Gopi Patel being thrown on the road by Chhotu Khan spread like fire. Everyone was making things up with their own mouths. As much as the mouth. His three brothers came on the highway carrying logs. He was still lying on the road, no one even bothered to lift him. The Dhaba people explained to him that there was no fault of Chhotu Khan in this, your brother was lifting him and throwing him, so he did not get up, and your brother fell due to his weight.

Now his brothers brought their elder brother to the village. Coming there and explained to him a lot that you have mixed the honor of our Patel family in the soil. After that he washed her a lot, and made her wear a thread, and also made a resolution that even life will not drink alcohol anymore.

But it was the compulsion of the villagers that the government had set up four liquor shops on each license. There was no one to listen to the villagers, not knowing how many drunkards were being born, whose houses were being destroyed. Now the villagers had thought that they would vote for the one who would remove the liquor contracts in our village. Today everyone in the village took an anti-liquor resolution.
